ok my friend says he bought a computer and when he checks the GHZ it says 3ghz...its amd so im wondering how he pulled this off since he says its not overclocked...i dont even think the FX-55's and the 4000+ even go that fast

It is totally possible for an AMD to go even pass 3GHz.. with the proper cooling (or even water cooling) it is totally possible.

The highest frequency I know from a stock CPU is the Athlon 64 FX-55 which happens to be 2.6 GHz. When overclocked properly, it could reach 3 GHz.

im guessing he either has an athlon 3000 or he is lieing. And you cant overclock a procesor without knowing it especially that much...

The FX-55 is bullcrap! It can't overclock past 3.0GHz without loosing stability. Now the 90nm Winchester core 3500+ can reach 3.32GHz with very good cooling (Liquid or heatpipe+fan) The 90nm allows for a gorgeous overclock. Here are the STOCK speeds of the AMD64s.

3000+ @ 1.8GHz
3200+ @ 2.0GHz
3500+ @ 2.2GHz
3800+ @ 2.4GHz
4000+ @ 2.4GHz (with 1MB L2 Cache)
FX-53 @ 2.4GHz (with 1MB L2 Cache)
FX-55 @ 2.6GHz (with 1MB L2 Cache)

ohh the 3500+ winnie can overclock that high? now im starting to feel happy that i got it. ZEN do you know what a safe overclock is for that chip, you know something a little higher but superstable for long life? thats where i want to be, cause im not crazy about speed as long as it works good.
