While searching for a PIII 500MHZ processor for my proliant 800, I came across two different kind of 500mhz processors,...
1) INTEL/PENTIUM 3/500/100/512 S2

2) 500/512/100/2.0V S1

Now, I can understand all the description except for the "S1" and "S2" part. What does that mean,...

Someone told me that
"S1 and S2 stand for stepping1 and stepping2"

Can you please elaborate what is the difference between Stepping1 and Stepping2 processors.
thankyou

Yes S1 for stepping 1 and S2 is also known as Xeon processor.
A processor number is classified in order by
speed, cache, bus, voltage and then the UL identifier which gives you the step.
So 500/512/100/2.0V S1 is clearly recognized.
Xeon or S2 processors are generally more reliable.

So, from the above description of my Proliant, can you please advise me, which processor to take,... S1 or S2.
