Book:
"A check determines if this is a cold boot. If so, the first 16 KB of RAM is tested."

What RAM? D/S/RIMM RAM?
CMOS RAM?
HUH??

"Post checks RAM by writing and reading data. The monitor displays a running count of RAM during this phase."

What RAM is the book referring to?

It is scanning your SDRAM (or DDR, same thing) The first 16KB are the interpret area, and they determine if you did a restart or a cold start, or a complete overstart (taking CMOS battery out discharging CMOS 16KB SDRAM keepfile area)

Ram is just Random Access Memory. It can be anything. Ram isnt just memory (ddr) etc. RAM, ROM and backing store. Learn :D

Thanks for making me more confused.

I understand that there is shadow ram and cmos ram. This isn't being very specific on what type of RAM.
nor which ram has the information that it reads or writes to. I'm just wondering which RAM it gets this stuff from.
