Motherboard Switching!

I just added everything up (pricewise), and with the AMD Athlon 64 3000+, the ASUS K8N motherboard, the Corsair Value 256 MB memory, and the AsiaPro ASYS Mini-Tower case, the total, with shipping, came up to $320.94!

Just so you know, I'm very pleased. However, before I really finalize this, can someone who has done this before make sure that everything is compatible with each other? I'll give you all of the links to the products:

Looks good. That case should support your Athlon 64 no problem. Everything is perfect. You have an extra vent for a system fan too on the back. Yayyyyy!!!

All is compatible, however, I highly discourage the purchase of the Corsair Value Select, Here, buy this instead, much much better RAM!

For 512MB:

For 256MB:

Geil is much better RAM, and its value series has far better timings (2.5-6-3-3!!!) Compared to the Corsair "value" RAM (3-8-5-5...) Geil's VALUE RAM is the best Value ram out there. I advise you heavily to get the 512MB Geil Value, it will serve you better, and you want more ram then 256MB with an AMD64! 512MB is plenty, and you can add more later. GL! :D

Allright. I changed to the GEIL memory (512 MB) and the total came to 360 bucks. My budget got revamped a bit, and I have some more money (possibly). I'm going to have to think over buying all of this right now, but I'm leaning toward "yes".

Also, does that case come with a fan? I noticed that in my case there's a fan next to the outside of the back of the case, and I remember there was an air duct directing itself on my current processor (only has a heatsink). Does that new case come with that, or do I need to buy one? Or, can I change out my current fan and duct and put them in the new one. I have a Dell Dimension 4300, standard fan and duct, and I believe the fan is made by Datech.

Thanks again! We're nearing the end (very close...)!

It doesn't look like it comes with a fan. The fan duct in the Dell is customized for the Dell system. I've seen it on the Dell's at school and they're pretty neat. This case doesn't come with such a feature. You can see if the Dell duct will fit. The case itself has 2 exhaust system fans you can add on.

A little off subject. Looks like my parts are coming in hopefully Monday evening or Tuesday morning according to the FedEx tracking. Newegg is soooooooo fast. Once those parts are in my hands, I'm going down to the PC Club to buy a SATA hard drive and get everything installed. Can't wait.

Hahahaha! Power of the fast shipping.

But anyways, do I need to buy a new fan? Or can I put the old one in there (Datech) without the duct? I'm sure I can rig up something with that duct. I have a saw downstairs... ;)

Looks like I'll be getting these things in a few days (I haven't ordered them yet, but I think I'll be able to).

Also off of the subject: if anyone is into PS2 or Xbox games, Mercenaries is worth every penny. I got it for PS2 about a week ago, and I've already put 14 hours into it! Nowhere near half of the game is over, as well. Fun as.... Grand Theft Auto 3, in my opinion.

Thanks!

By the way, I REALLY appreciate your help (to everyone)!!!!!!!!!!! This is a great, friendly forum, with a lot of knowledgeable people!

Case fans are generally 80mm in size. Most of my systems don't have ducts, and I don't have heating problems. You can see if how the Dell fan will fit (I'm sure it will--unless they purposely made it smaller than standard size to propriatize everything) and if it doesn't, fans are really cheap. You can just go down to a computer shop and get a couple of system fans ranging from $5-$10 depending on fan RPM. That way, you won't have to buy through Newegg and pay for shipping.

I just did a VERY rough measurement, and the fan looked to be about 80 mm in size. I measured it just by sticking a ruler up to the back of the computer, so it wasn't accurate, but it looked just about like 80 mm, so I'm not worried. And even if it doesn't fit, as you said, it won't be hard finding one.

I'm also guessing the power supply in the new case as well as the front two USB ports have wires ready to connect to the fan/motherboard respectively.

Thanks again!

Yeah, the fans are no big deal. I"m sure the ones you have will fit. They're pretty universal. You see one case fan, you seen them all. I like the ones with LED lights on them to make the computer glow.

The power supply has all the power connections you need to give juice to your motherboard, floppy, hard drive, CD drive, and expansion cards that require extra power.

The case should have wires from the front USB, wires from the front switch, a reset switch, speaker wire, ready for you to be plugged into the motherboard. The motherboard should have detailed instructions as to where these should be plugged into.
