Thinking ahead...or Behind!

Well recently my computer crashed, So after many attempts of trying to get it running, I hired somebody. They fixed it however two weeks later it crashed again. I used quick restore and everything was erased. However I heard that you can somehow return to a certin day and what you had on your computer. Like if it crashed today, I could return to how it was yesterday. Is this true? And how do I do this?
Im using windows 98 FYI
