What is a crash?

I know what a crash is but a technical definition and what r some examples?

when a program stop running but you can Ctrl, Alt and Del to get out of

an event that causes a computer system to become inoperative;

"the crash occurred during a thunderstorm and the system has been down ever since"

or when the computer locks up so badly that the only to get out of it is to reboot.

pretty much, but there times when even a CTL-ALT-DEL won't help. You just have to hit the reset switch.
