Overclocking my processor.

CPU Z will tell you everything unless you go to START>RUN>TYPE DXDIAG THEN THAT WILL TELL YOU SOME STUFF ON YOUR RAM,CPU SHIT LIKE that. sorry caps lol. cant be arsed retyping. arent there more members since i aint been on this forums for 2 days clear umm lol been playing to much of GTA-VICE CITY online+counter strike

what temperature do i want the inside of my comp to be ideally before i start oc'in? i got 4 fans, i for my power supply, one for my mobo, one on the top of my case, one on the side of my case, and if you count the one on my graphics card then i got 5 fans running in my cpu(Tsystem temperature = 24 degrees celsius and 75 degrees faherenheit. TCPU temperature is 26 degrees celsius and 79 degrees fahernheit.. And im sure i gave you guys way more then enough information about my mobo and cpu to determine how to overclock it and how much i can. Someone earlier said that northwood processors (which i have) can be overclocked a hefty amount. How much is a hefty amount (in mhz or ghz please)

Ok, it is a Gateway, so GL overclocking it.. Since they usually burn the EEPROM into it, and lock that area of the BIOS, but you can try moving the jumper by the system battery to unlock the BIOS.. Anywho, overclocking it to 2.6GHz should be ok with Northwood, but Gateway uses passive cooling, so I would upgrade cooling, and raise it to 2.9GHz. That is a good overclock.

well the temp inside my comp is 79 degrees fahernheit. is that a good temperature for overclocking to 2.6 ghz? How do you overclock. what are the steps for it? i want to see if it is locked.

You overclock by raising the FSB in the BIOS setting.

Go into your BIOS and go into clock frequencies.
It could be under advacned chipset options or something similar.

Than you slowly raise the megahertz.
Simple.

Im prolly wrong but I doubt getting a new processor will change wether its locked or not , you could get a new bios! that might help
