Kupo, i am a web desigener/developer. I am currently working in the field but its been hard stabilizing a career. Most jobs in this area are contract and long term is difficult to think about. I have been out of college about 3 years now and out of my class of about 25, very few have been able to get jobs in this field. This was a post-grad course so we all have degrees to back up our certificates as well. My suggestion to you is this. Go into some kind of database administration or some kind of IT specialist where you will be an expert in large-scale system analysis and design, business application services and project leadership in web application development and management. (i just grabbed that from a job spec that came in this morning). I see many IT jobs which myself, as good as i am in computers, lack the knowledge to get into the filed. Something like J2EE, websphere, .NET. That should help you int he future.

Get into what i said, database mgt, J2EE, webspehere, something along those lines. If you like programming i would say Java or C++ or .NET.

I am taking C++ course next semester gonna see if i enjoy it i enjoyerd vb but i never got a full chance to think through how to program b/c the guy next to me (my friend) always has a faster brain than mine.. and he thinks outl loud so i really dindt' have to "do" much although i wasn't totally given answers...anyways yea

Ya make sure you thoroughly enjoy programming before diving in full time. I love programming therefore thats what i do now, at work, at home on my spare time too, and thats how its been for the past 4 years. If your freind is bothering you at school then try some stuff out at home, i am sure you have a text book or something that your working with, go through some examples and then try building soemthing yourself and see if you feel rewarded. If you think its something that you should go further into. I know people who have started, hated it then had to change course.

yea i understand what your saying i am only looking at the options that i can do in the computer field .... graphic/web/computer repair are overpopulated or by contract not a steady job i can get or that's what i have heard or think anyways idk if that is true that's what i get from here and around and then Networking is an option and Programming but idk what other computer fields there are and what u can do w/ them and stuff... i love repairing them but it's overpopulated i hear anyways yea thanks for your input

EDIT: also i have read a complete hackers handbook and i am reading hackers - the art of exploition and i love the concepts there and like how they talk about how the computer works and stuff like that

i'm not saying i'm gonna become a black hacker or anything b/c i'm not but the point is i love the computer lol so i love all that stuff about programming it like fascinatesr me all the computer stuf.. the only thing is even tho it fascinates me and i love it does not mean i want to do it 24/7 as a job so really what i'm trying to do is figure out what i enjoy enough to do a 24/7 job. And i don't knwo what all is out there and stuff the only thing i would hate DOING is making chipsets and making them run better and stuff even though the concepts i'm sure would fasicante me. I'm a techno/computer lover lol

Well good luck to you then. One more thing you may wanna look into...security. Youtalking about hacking has just brought that thought to mind. Not sure how tough it is (courses and finding a job) but i know they make killa cash...

you should become a Network Administrator or something. Even though it sounds like all you do is manage the network, you do more than that. I use to work as an assistant to the Network admin., and he does all computer related problems, cabling, networking related deals in a section of a college campus. We kept inventories, logged repair orders, maintain network/monitor network, upgrade as necessary over the summer which is always. During classes, we would troubleshoot login problems by students (most of the time is IP shared conflicts). Sometime the printer would go out over the network because it affects all the PCs in the lab, not just one. Something wrong with the switch. Students sometime accidently knock a cable loose so we have to trace it. We use different network equipments to do that to see what is open. The printer queue gets overloaded so we have to check the printer server. Lots of hard drive problems, but we just call Dell direct and order a new one. We would also make all the necessary configurations to the computers in the computer lab and create an image to be used in all the labs. We put client disk in all the workstations and flood the network in each lab to image it all at the same time. The best part of it all is we get all these software literally free (corporate editions) and we're making copies of it and get top of the line software. If you know visual basic or know how to create basic DOS batch files, you can help control boot parameters and all that neat stuff. A lot of computer repair too as they arise. So you can see you do a little bit of everything, but as a team to get it done. Is that something you have in mind?

Or you can always go into programming. That is one field that is a constant. Always need programmers in a variety of fields. I just don't have the brain for it, otherwise that's what I would get into. Money is good too.
