Hi, I'm trying to decide which processor i should get from newegg. It seems that the P4 2.4 Ghz w/ HT has the most votes, followed by the P4 3.0 Ghz w/ HT and then the 2.8 Ghz w/ HT. There's some athlon XP's in i between the 3.0 and the Amd64 3000+. Should I just get one of the intels, the amd64, or a athlon xp 2100+?

A summarized view_________________________
- P4 2.4 Ghz w/ HT $148
-P4 3.0 Ghz w/HT $188
-P4 2.8 Ghz w/HT $199
-Amd 64 3000+ $149
-Athlon Xp 2100+ $89

I would recommend the AMD 64 3000+.. :) But what about the 3200? Forget the XP 2100+.. it is slow and obsolete.

How is that, in any way, relevent to the topic?

Go with the 3000+, you'll get the most use out it, and it'll be around a lot longer that any of the Pentiums.

If you could give us a brief summary on what you plan to do with the computer, we'd have a better basis for making our decisions.

Go with the 3200+ for budget, 3500+ or 3700+ for mid-range, and the FX-55 for the ultimate gaming compter.

Definitely go with the amd64 3000. But like kalthorn said it does kinda depend on what you are doing on the computer. If you are doing just basic home use and running basic apps and will be playing games a lot then go with the amd64 3000, but if you're gonna do any kind of video/photo editing, animation, etc. then get the p4 3.0 w/HT. Oh and if you do pick the amd64 3000, then I highly suggest getting the s939 version as it will allow you for easy upgrading in the future.
