I'm just curious...for a while my harddrive light hasn't been working. Last night, I decided I wanted to change it out from a dull amber to a nice bright red color. Woo, I can see when my computer is working now ;)

Anyway, the light flashes once every second when my computer is just sitting there. I didn't have trillian open as I usally done, I disabled my virus scan, and I undloaded WindowBlinds(my skin is animated) My computer is running great, but it's just a bit annoying. Is this normaly for XP? I know my other 3 computers with 2000 Pro or Server don't do this...

When it is doing "nothing" in xp it flashes about once a second maybe every 2, its not a problem

Most likely the indexing service. You can disable it by typing 'services.msc' from the run menu. Find Indexing Service, right-click > properties, set it do disable and click apply.

The indexing services goes through your local disks and makes a catalog of the files on them. It improves searching, but in general it's not necessary.
