I really want to play the sims 2 so which would be the best solution for my pc?
1)Buy new pc
2)Buy new pc (barebone)
3)Upgrade motherboard and memory
4)Buy new CPU

system specs:
An Old Dell (Dimension L700cx)
Windows XP Service Pack 1 Home Edition Version 2002
Intel Celeron Processor 700MHz
192 MB RAM
Intel(r) 82810E Graphics Controller at 4MB <<< I Know
Sound Blaster Live PCI V. 5.01
17" Curvy Screen Moniter
CDRW drive 52-48-42 are somthing like that

Now I have an AGP Nvidia Riva TNT2 64MB in a box got it from a good buddy. I will be on a strict budget I will maybe have only have about $300 or $400.

if you are short for cash then upgrade as best you can but if you have lots to burn then buy a whole now computer for better still build a new one :)

those old specs are pretty ancient. Even that TNT2 needs to be replaced non compatible for your game. If you plan on playing The SIms 2, you need a new computer with all new parts. The burner you can probably salvage and the monitor. You'll need a system that will meet or exceed (recommended) requirements need to play The SIms 2.

so i think the answer would be buy a new one, if you can build your own you can get a computer much cheaper.

Here are the system spec's for The Sims 2 so look at them when you are hunting for a new computer:

-------------------
If you have a T&L capable video card with at least 32 MB of video RAM (such as nvidia GeForce 2 or better or ATI Radeon 7000 or better) then you need at least:
800 MHz P3 processor
256 MB RAM if Windows XP
128 MB RAM if Windows ME, Windows 98 or Windows 2000
At least 3.5 GB of hard drive space
If you have a non-T&L capable video card (such as TNT2 or Intel Integrated for example) then you need at least:
2.0 GHz processor
256 MB RAM if Windows XP
128 MB RAM if Windows ME, Windows 98, or Windows 2000
At least 3.5 GB of hard drive space
Recommended video cards: (the more video memory the better)
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro
Nvidia Geforce 4
This information is based on specifications supplied by manufacturers and should be used for guidance only.

I don't know what you can get that will fit your price range but let me try... because $300-$400 is kinda difficult..

All I suggest is upgrading the ram to 256MB PC2700 DDR333 and buying a seperate graphics card because integrated video always sucks. It'll probably be around $300-$350 in the end (I suggest getting an Nvidia FX5200 or FX5700).

the price range is abit low for a computer that can run The Sims 2.

You need better graphic card
RAM like what Giancarlo said
WAY better processor

Yeah the best I could do is with the link. 256MB of ram at least.. if you are a more intensive gamer at least 512MB. Just check out the link.. it is a Semprom 2600+.. more then enough for the average gamer.

Ok you guys this is what im going to do. I went to pricewatch.com I will get a motherboard+CPU+RAM, video, case+power supply, and I will use my hard drive, ram, and sound card etc that I already have and build a new pc.

Mobo+CPU+RAM:
http://www.bzboyz.com/store/product2568.html
(I will use the 256MB and my 128MB)

Case+PSU:
http://www.edazz.com/midtowercases.html
(One of those cases with at least 400W Power Supply and 3x5.25 for my cd-rom and cd-rw and maybe a dvd-rom)

Video Card:
Radeon 9250 128MB 64bit DDR AGP8X
http://www.allstarshop.com/shop/product.asp?pid=10008&sid=B1NX8XTFQRVH8GS6838544R5WAW2BPB8
(I'm afraid the 9250 isn't compatitable with the sims because in the requirements it goes 9200 then 9500)and what does that 64bit mean?

Opinions please...
