Installed a Secondary Hard Drive

i installed a secondary hard drive earlier and for some reason my computer detected it but doesnt display it under my computer. does anyone know why?

is it formatted? you will need to format it before it is usable, and also check the jumper and make sure you set it at "slave"

i did that but how do you format it... i got these instructions from a web site that said to open fdisk. my computer doesnt have fdisk thought, how can i do this?

did the drive come with any cd's? if they did, use those to format it.

well i got information that you can partition it, what is that for and how do i do it. my computer doesnt have fdisk

fdisk is a dos utility. Go to start>run and typr cmd.
then format from there. Otherwise get partition magic and use that program to format the drive.

the same thing happened with my second drive, xp wouldn't recognize it until I formatted it. mine happened to be a maxtor so I had the maxblast 3 software on my computer already, all I had to do was open that up and format it.
