First Build

Well, can't defeat the purpose of upgrading in the first place. Got to have PCIe then. Just not much AMD board that supports it. I wish there was a variety of them like Intel's.

This is the board I may get since the Gigabyte PCIe supported board isn't available:

ASUS "A8V Deluxe" VIA K8T800 Pro Chipset Motherboard For AMD Socket 939

It comes loaded with a bunch of cables and just so pretty. I like how the socket is farther away from the AGP slot. Plus the Promise RAID controllers are one of the best. It's got 5 star ratings by everyone that posted a comment. Looks like a great board for the Athlon 64 3200. What do you guys think of this one?

You should go with the newer K8N-E Deluxe instead.. it is based on the Nvidia3 250GB chipset which is a bit faster then the K8T800. My dad runs the K8T800... fine board indeed, but the K8N-E is a bit better.

Differences between 8X AGP and PCIe are minimal at this time. In fact it is known the technology of PCIe can sometimes lag behind AGP 8X, and is lackluster.

I wsa initially going to use that one, but the Asus version of the nForce3 250 supports the 754 socket. It doesn't look like there is any 939 support for that particular chipset.

So which one is better? Obviously the latter one huh? THese are all Athlon 64 Socket 939 based baoards with PCIe support. That's it from Newegg, down to these 3 PCIe:

GIGABYTE "GA-K8NF-9" NVIDIA nForce4 4X Chipset Motherboard For AMD Socket 939 CPU

CHAINTECH NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra Chipset Motherboard For AMD Socket 939 CPU, Model "VNF4/Ultra"
http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=13-152-049&depa=1

ASUS "A8N-SLI Deluxe" nForce4 SLI Chipset Motherboard For AMD Socket 939 CPU (2 PCIex16 support--really worth it?)
http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=13-131-517&depa=1

THey're all nvidia chipsets and they're also all not available right now until the end of this month and early January. Unbelievable. Must be good or too new.

I would go with the Gigabyte one. The ASUS SLI one is useless. I don't really trust Chaintech as a board manufacturer.

The ASUS SLI seem to be loaded with stuff (10 USB ports, 2 RJ45, 4x SATA2 3.0Gb/s with NV Raid 0/1/0+1, 2x PCI-E X16, etc.) though. What makes this board not worth the money, besides the $269+shipping?

If I get the Gigabyte board, this is the video card I'm getting with it. It's right where my budget is @ $150!! Don't want to spend more. Check it out:

CHAINTECH nVIDIA GeForce 6600 Video Card, 256MB DDR, 128-Bit, DVI/TV-Out, PCI-Express, Model "SE6600" -RETAIL
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-145-099&depa=1

What do you think? Specs are current and up to date. Looks like a winner with this one without forking over hundeds of dollars.

Yeah the ASUS has two PCIex 16x which is entirely uneeded. The Gigabyte one has plenty of features, no motherboard is worth over 150 bucks.

I never did understand why companies add the feater "Gaming" to cases and desktops. It's like....this computer is 1,800...this one is 2,000 and has the same hardware but wait...it is a gaming computer so it must be worth it.

lol. i was thinking the same thing... You kno what they say, "Great minds think alike." lol :D.
