.m4a ---> .mp3

I am trying to convert .m4a and .cda files to .mp3 files so that they are compatible with my iRiver. I know that there is some downloadable software (~20 bucks) that would do the trick. Is there an easier (free) way to do this, and if not any suggestions on good audio file converting software?

cda u should be able to do with some software that u should have been given with ur iriver.......... i dont have one but im guessing they should supply u with one.............. or u can use windows media player..... i think
