Hi! I'm building my first computer but I think I need a little help selecting parts. I want to play some new games such as HL2 as good speeds. I was looking at these for my cpu and motherboard.

AMD Athlon 64 3000+ 512K Cache
and
Abit KV8PRO

Are these any good/do you have any suggestions?

Also, about RAM, do you think one stick of Kingston DDR400 512M PC3200 will be sufficient?

Lastly, about a video card, I definately need to upgrade my old 9200se. I don't have that much money after the cpu and motherboard, and I was looking at a 9600xt. Will that run HL2 or what recommendations would you give? Would this be a bottleneck for my cpu or vice-versa?

thanks a lot and merry xmas! =)

For ram, 512 is ok for regualr computing, but for gaming I would suggest getting 1gb. For your video card, whats your budget? Cuz I doubt the 9600 XT is going to run HL2 at medium-high settings.

Get 1GB of RAM, and don't get that ATi card. Get a Geforce 6600GT or 6800GT, and raise the processor. The 3500+ went on sale! BTW, is that 3000+ 939 pin? If not, I recommend switching. Here, do this!

CPU- Athlon64 3500+ 939 Pin (these really dropped in price lately!) ONly $273!!!

MOBO- 939 Good MOBO!!

Now for the Best Option on the Market, do PCI Express, HERE:

This MOBO is nForce4, and is only $129!! GET THIS!

This is copied from another of my posts, because there options pwn, and are fairly cheap!

I suggest 1gb - 2. 2 might be overkill but maybe in the future games may require a minimun of 1g but 1g is good 4 now.
