A few days ago, my computer's been kinda slow. I was thinking of defragging it, but that won't solve the second problem. The HD sounds like it's reading/writing even when the comp is idle. Third, the HD makes more noise than usual when maximising a browser window.

wtf is going on?

Bring up the task manager , and find out all that's running in the background.(clear+alt+delete)

I already have Ad-Aware, as well as Norton Anti-Virus Corporate edition. Both with updated definitions. And I've already tried looking at the processes. Nothing unusual, and no network activity unless I'm using it.

Just a little update. The computer's faster now that I've defragged and deep-scanned it for spyware. But I still have that HD sound when the comp is idle.

By the way, sorry for posting in the wrong section, I was in a hurry. =p

Hmmm... not downloading anything?

Idle as in... nothing is on, nothing is doing anything, and you're not on the internet? Because even on idle Microsoft programs log data, Quicktime will log data, all manner of taskbar programs log data and download updates in Idle.
