Hiya, i'm james and new to this board. I reeeeeeally need some advice. A mate of mine wants me to fix his machine he got from PC World (of all places!). He has a damaged HDD beyond repair and needs a new one. Here's my problem, can you still use the recovery disks that PC World provide on a brand new HDD?

Any information would be of great value!

It's got a major disk error, can't get into the operating system, basically i know for a fact the HDD is f**ked! All i need really is an answer to the question i posted.

The answer is yes, you can use the system restore disks on any hhd, as long as it is formatted correctly...usually NTFS is what you want for win xp versions.

Yeah, as long as its on the same compter in basicness, then it will work.
