Hey, Im looking for a new CPU and my mobo fits a 423 Pin. Right now I have a P4 1.4 Ghz. Can any of you guys suggest a CPU that fits a 423 PIN? Thanks

well, you will be limited to what you can get, you will need to see what the best cpu your board supports. I would suggest saving your money so you could get a new board and cpu, (and probably ram as well since most sckt 423 boards use rambus) also I would suggest AMD.

If you don;t want to spend all that much money to replace ram and processor and MOBO, then get a 423 to 478 pin converter, and a new 478pin processor, but don't make it overkill. A 2.2GHz is fine, since your MOBO will only recognize 2.0GHz maximum anyways. Here are two links to the products I stated above.

423/478 Converter- http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=14293&item=6726701574&rd=1
THIS IS EBAY BUY IT NOW, so just do this for $10.

Processor- http://www.acmicro.com/PPmain.asp?IC=2303&Action=Mostrar&msk=PD
This is a 478 pin processor with the same 400MHz FSB that your MOBO recognizes. This one is perfect for its price ($116)

GRAND TOTAL- $130 with shipping probably

OTHER OPTION- THe other option is to buy a new MOBO, AMD processor, and RAM (DDR PC3200) Here are links, and I will give grand total for comparisons sake. GL either way, and I hope this info helps. :D ;)

MOBO- http://www.ewiz.com/detail.php?p=MB-K8NSU93&c=pw
This is new socket 939 technology, nForce3 Gigabyte MOBO, that supports the newer AMD64 chips and FX chips.
PRICE= $116!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PROCESSOR- http://www.monarchcomputer.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=M&Product_Code=120421
This is an AMD64 3000+ processor (939pin), but I would go one step further if I were you...
PRICE= $155!!!

http://www.monarchcomputer.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=M&Product_Code=120422
This is an AMD64 3200+ 939 Pin processor, and this CPU will kick all P4's asses except maybe the 1,200 "Extreme Edition" one... :p
PRICE= $194!!

RAM- http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=85002-12
This is 1GB (2X 512MB) of Geil's Ultra series ram (GOOD RAM!!) for only $199!! I'd do this, but I will provide a link below for Mushkin ram (still very good ram!), but not Ultra series.
PRICE=$199!!!!!!!!!!!

MUSHKIN- http://www.monarchcomputer.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=M&Product_Code=140536
PRICE= $174.....!.....

TOTALS:
WITH GEIL RAM and 3200+= $520 or a bit less!

WITH GEIL RAM and 3000+= $475 or a bit less!

WITH MUSHKIN RAM and 3200+= $500 or a bit less!

WITH MUSHKIN RAM and 3000+= $450 or a bit less!

ANYWAY, GL and I hope this helps you decide what you need, or what you want. Weigh the advantages and disadvantages carefully, looking at your budget and need, and then decide only after lots of though (this is an investment after all) GL! :D

Edit was gone, sry for 2X post. I also wanted to mention a company to you, called CyberPowerSystem. They are a low cost, gaming CPU company that is highly rated. Check them out for a low cost AMD64 system, brand new with 3 year warranty.

www.cyberpowersystem.com

just get a K8NS PRO, SOCKET 754 AMD ATHLON 64BIT 3000+ N OVERCLOCK IT TO A 2.3 I HAVE O'C IT TO A 2.2 BUT ANY MORE THEN 2.3 IT WONT START UP IT DONT ALOW YOU TO DO THE VOLTAGE,
IF YOU DONT WONT TO O'C IT ITS GONER COST YOUR $350 IN US I THINK,IN UK MONEY IT IS ABOUT 250 POUND

He really should not fork out all that money for an extinct socket 754 MOBO and processor. 939 is the way to go now. Good Idea Cobra, but I do not think the lower price of the 754 technology warrants buying it. I mean, think about it... He buys it, then 2 years from now, a new game (HL3 or somethin) comes out, and his CPU won't run it, then he has to search eBay for a used 754 CPU chip, that will only give him maybe another 400MHz increase. With 939, he just goes to pricewatch.com, and clicks an AMD64 4700+ (or whatever there will be then) and buys it for a much lower cost then an antique 754. Logical I think.... but if the price is a concern, go with Cobra's idea. ;)

AMD ZEN, So if I bought this 423/478 pin converter I could only buy a new CPU less than 2.0Mhz? Or does my old CPU have to be 2.0Mhz or less for the converter to work?

No you can buy anyspeed CPU that is 478pin, but it will only run at 2.0GHz maximum, and must have a 400Mhz FSB rating to work. Otherwise have a hayday!

Donkey? Hmmm, I prefer ass, but ok, I am a donkey.... who prefers new technology, LOLOL. HEEEE HAAAAAA!
