i have a lan consisting of 2 computers, i want to set up a shared folder on my secondary computer that my son uses, he downloads all his music into it. i want to be able to monitor that folder for porn that he may download, how do i set up shared folders?

ok...check these.
Network...Y/N
Workgroup...Y/N
Is the Workgroup the same name...Y/N
Same Operating system...Y/N...not necessary but makes it easier.

Those are the basics for netwroking a computer.

These instructions are for Windows XP
On his computer, right click the folder on the menu select sharing.
Click yes to share. Windows will ask you about security...just share.
Reboot.

Then on your computer, Open my computer on the left side select my network it should show up. If not, on the file menu select refresh.
If nothing, up folder to workgroup and double click that. That should do it. If not, check the above list again.

Other OS...ask again being more specific.

thank you very much, ill do this tomorrow when hes at school,
networked: Yes
same workgroup: Yes
same OS: Yes

Well in that case make all his folders sharebull or quit simply put your foot down and us andministrator powers by not allowing him to use the internet unless he complies

Also, if your both running xp. You can right click my computer, (on his computer) go to properties, computer name, change. Change it to something thats easy like "son".
Then you can go to start, run, "\\son" and you will see all his shared folders. You can also do this in a web browser just the same as typing in a web address except typing the \\son
hope this helps

all i did was share the root drive c:
i dont think hes smart enough to change the folder, if he is i can always find it
