Power Supply

I have a Dell Dimension 4550 I got just under two years ago. It's 2.4 ghz, 1 gig of ram. I ahd been searching lately for a new graphics card because my nVidia Geforce 4 64mb is not going to cut it for games like Medal of Honor Pacific Assault. I had originally wanted to get a Radeon 9800 Pro, but I found out it requires a 300 watt power supply. Mine is only 250 watts.

Two questions: first, granted my power supply is standard form, could I put in a new power supply without damaging anything, mobo, etc. I have been told that this could be dangerous. Second, right now I am going to get a Diamond Viper 9600 XT 256 mb. I am assuming this is a pretty darn good video card. Am I right?

Thanks,

well the thing is, you have a dell (i know that may have shocked you a bit) and modern dell mobo's only work with dell PSU. I have heard if you use a ATX PSU in a dell mobo, your a gonna fry it :( however wait for someone to clarify it, because i am not sure how long dells have been doing this and your computer may have been built before this stupid policy

oh and on a side note, the 9600XT's are awsome :)

Yeah, dell is overall very hard to cusomize (hardware-wise). Half the parts are Dell made, so there's not much you can do...
