Can someone explain athlon processors to me plz.

apparently the AMD ATHLON XP-M 3000+ runs as 1.6GHz, but the AMD ATHLON 2600+ runs as 2.13GHz.

how do they work and what are they compared to intel.

athlon-m are mobile additions. They run with less heat and power (good for laptops) the 2600+ is a normal desktop addition.

2.2GHZ - But this can beat a 2.8GHZ intel p4 etc.

You cannot compair it to such, amd are cheaper, efficient and soemtimes more powerful than high clock proccessors. They run differently and clock speeds doesnt mean everything :D

Exactly. :) The 64 beats the Intel in most tests (especially when you compare the fastest AMD 64 versus the fastest P4).

That second notebook looks a lot better (and it is when compared to the first one).

Its not just the 64 bit 2.2Ghz. AMD and Intel both calculate their clockspeed differently. AMD mulitplies the multiplier by two, and Intel mulitplies the mulitplier by 4. Which means both chips can be just as fast as the other but Intel shows their clockedspeed to be higher.

well i heard that the xp-m uses less power and produces less heat, and its way easier to overclock, but im not sure tho :)
