Googles NEW Desktop Search Is Bad!

If you are dumb enough to store personal info on your machine then you get what ya deserve. If you don't get rid of trojans on a ritual basis anybody can get your info-not just google.
I see googles search capability as an extension of my ability to find what I need when I need it. Paranoia about what they might do with anything they might find should be minimal. Ive already got all my most fundemental info all over the internet-Gee people know my name, how scary.

Lol; I'm quite happy for people to know whats on my computer. At no point either did I say I had personal information on my computer either. What I was saying was that I don't agree with the idea that they are taking advantage of people who think - wow its good - think, my mate has Google Desktop Search I think I'll have it - and Google gets Advertising Information.

I do, after all, despise Advertising Programs - which is basically what Google is, a big Advertising System. Its E-Mail does it; its Search does it. They'll know enough to send you advertising information, how is it any better than Gator, or any other Adware program out there. Other than the fact its shares its ability to search your computer with you.

Yeah, I hatye junk clogging up my hardrive and registry, but when i see new, fun and exciting new things on the web, I cant help but downloading them!!!!!!
I tryed downloadng it, it is not compatible with windows ME

google has ads... because it's free. I understand that. Google is also a very useful tool that helps many people, those searching and those wanting to be searched. they don't have flashy popups or banners. the're ads are not offensive and are usually based on content that you are serching for, or viewing, and therefore can be useful at times.
I consider the ads as just a small price to pay for having the privilige of using a great tool for free.
I think it is also a bit extreme to compare it to an organization such as gator. Gator has to be just about the most offensive ad-ware I have seen and google is not this way.

Nah; all Ad programs are the same. Gator is bad - but it was only doing what Google is doing on a smaller scale in and more in your face way.

Above is a sample of the search results of my harddrive for the keyword grapes. These are cookbook pages on my website Imperial Valley Gateway. Youll notice some how google has redirected your clicking on the link from my harddrive to the actual page on the web

It does it with your E-mails on Gmail? Why not with you hard drive - and Gary has already pointed out it only uses spare processing time to do this; so after it does indexing, or if it has spare processor power while indexes, why not do the same with Ads? How else can they make money...

I'm sure the search is brilliantly fast and highly desireable. I'm sure the Ads are minimal and in no way in your face. However, you are using a program which is using you, your general activities, and your usage Data to make money. Its not really that that is technically wrong (not that if Microsoft did it it would be taken as well) but it is a principle thing. And there's always the fact its Google - and we shouldn't be using it anyway.

There is nothing evil about a corporation trying to make money-everybody has to eat.
The concept that making money is somehow evil is stupid. Why don't we take away YOUR income Kalthorn and will see how long your superior atitude lasts as you eat out of dumpsters. As for using me?-If I like the program and it serves me that is called a benificial partnership, If I benifit and they benifit than things are fine. I do not have a problem with your percieved threat-its a non issue.
