if i change my motherboard to a better one i won't need one correct? and if so which one should i purchase?

No all onboard sounds sucks. I have has three motherboards all with the nforce/nforce 2 chipset. and the sounds still sucks. I can only imagine how bad it must be with a via chipset.

Plus you have a p4 so you wont be able to get the nforce chipset. So just get the audigy you wont regret it.
