challenge: Build me a computer

Ok guys and gals. I am in desperate need of a new up to date computer. What I have now is old school. I mean Apple IIE old school. I am from the boston area and I have found a company that custom builds computers. Their website allows you to pick what you want and then they'll build it for you. It is called pcsforeveryone.com. I have chosen them because they are close to where I live and they seem to offer many options.
I plan on buying the monitor, keyboard and mouse at a later time. All I need at this time is the computer. I want a something fast (of course). I will be using it for watching movies, downloading music, phoography, and some (not much) gaming. I have a cable set up. I need something which will allow fast download speeds, and be multi-task friendly.

Here are a couple of things I have been looking into:
- p4 3ghz 800 mhz w/ ht tech
- motherboard with SATA compatability, 3500 or greater ram speed
- mid tower case w/ front usb and firewire ports, power supply, 80 to 92 mm fans
- DDR or DDR2 ram at least 512 w/ 3200 or greater speed
- ethernet 10/100/1000
- dvd rom/cd-rw/dvd-rw
- video card with agp, dvi output
- sound card 24 or 32 bit, pci

How does that sound? I am willing to spend at max $1200. Those are just some options I was looking into. Can anyone build something comparable or better under that price tag? Check out the website and look at the options. Please help.

its best to buy close buy if you arent able to build your own. So I would go with them.

how about u come down to the NJ area and i build u a computer. u buy me some dinner and we call it a deal. lol.

no but u should really learn how to build your own computer. i learned in a matter of days, and after you build your first one, u never forget. also, get one of your friends to teach you. make sure that u have a lot of time and that ur friend has a lot of time. make him stay over till ur finished asking qustions and make sure the comp works. just buy parts from newegg and ask friend to build it for you. and give him a tip of like 100 bucks.
u'll gain a lot of useful knowledge while u watch him work. it's really easy. i'm not even kidding. this is a skill u must learn. well, perhaps i'm a bit overzealous, but u shoudl learn it. saves a lot of dough later on, as u can upgrade as you like, instead of buying a whole new comp. get wat i mean??

True to an extent but.. I'd recommend starting off small. Don't try and put together your new 64 bit system unless you know what you are doing, you could easily break something.
Although it really is a useful skill!

i would like to put it together myself, but it seems overwhelming. I even went to newegg and priced out some of there stuff, but i got over my head on what exactly to buy. The only thing I have on this computer that i plan on crrying over to the next is an 80 gig external hd. I wouldnt know where to start. Like I said i have approx $1200 to spend at max. Any suggestions????
