Log on problems

After I press ctrl/alt/del and I write my username and password, the system will try to start up and after a few seconds log off.

Operating systems is windows xp (prof).

Before that, I used Adware to clean up the harddrive and I put all the malicious files in quarantine.

Any suggestions ??

can you boot-up to safemode ?
if you can, i would run your anti-virus...if it finds nothing, try this: click start/run/ type " msconfig" with out the quotes...then check in the startup tab to see if something is there that shouln't be.

could also be the sasser virus too, since it plays w/your boot files..
