let me get this straight...
1 insert boot disk
2 when menu appears, do ctrl+F5
3 go to the C drive
4type "format C:\" without the quotes
5 press enter

this is what I have been doing but still no luck. What is the problem???:confused:

haha, no I would never want to wipe out XP for 98. It has 98 on it right now and it's having problems so I'm reinstalling windows. plus I want to learn how anyway at the sametime.
by the way I'll try what you said computerfreek.;)

okay, tried that still not working. it says that it doesn't recognize format as a command. what does the erase command do? I assume this isn't what we want though.

Why not try to solve the W98 problems ? Can you get to normal mode?
What are these problems ?
Do you have a W98 system disk that contains format.com ?
It's also best to use fdisk first.

Crazyman, I may know what your problem is.

Bluto is correct, you need to partition first, so use the "fdisk" command - it's on the Windows 95 startup disk if not on the 98 one.
