Not-so-secret secret: When you can't figure out a computer question, go to www.google.com, and search! Seriously there are bound to be hundreds of thousands of tutorials out there about computer...just read them they will help you with whatever you're doing!
If you want to have a dual boot on your computer, for example, Slackware 10.0 and Windows XP pro, and maybe even a third OS like Linux Fedora Core, you will have to partition. Try downloading Partition Magic 8.0, get a crack code or ask someone on IRC to give you a full copy via DCC, and fire away! The software is easy to use, and is useful for doing anything with partitions. Just a word of advice thought...BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU'RE INSTALLING LINUX TO NOT SCREW WITH THE MASTER BOOT RECORD (MBR). I did this when i was working with Slackware 10 and I deleted the boot record to install the Linux master boot, and it couldn't recognize Windows or Linux because I installed it to the wrong place. So be careful with that.
