Hi new to this site - have just remastered computer (just to clean out build up clutter over years)and reinstalled windows. Using trial NOD32 virus checker. After downloading windows updates found virus WIN32/RBot.JB in C:\Windows\System 32\dllcon.ex NOD unable to clean as it is in operating system!
I am not that computer cofident and dont know what to do ie can I delete file!! or do I have to remaster again.
when I did a search to find file C:\windows\prefetch PFFile?
sorry this means nothing to me.
Also why did windows update ask for virus checker to be disabled when downloading service pack one express.
Please help - frustrated.

OK here's what i would do....
1) start over fresh with a fresh install of windows
2) right after you install OS, re-boot to safe mode and defrag the hhd.

3) when that's done....boot back up in normal...
then (if your running xp) make a restore point

to do this/ start/all programs/ accessories/system tools/system restore
4) when done...do windows update:
>>>>> BUT DO NOT USE I.E EXPLORER.....<<<<<
(you say but, when i click on windows update it auto runs internet explorer....)
5)this is what to do...click windows update
after the page loads... right click the url and copy....
then imediatley close down I.E
6) then use different browser..msn/aol/ect...
after you logon....IN THE HOMEPAGE BOX...(right click cut/right click again/ paste...this will let u update windows not using internet I.E
7) after updates r done...get spyware remover like ad-aware and spybot search & destroy...
and run them...you'll b suprized what they'll find on your computer...
8) then make another restore point...you should b good ta go.
