if you spend all your money on a flashy CPU and RAM and go cheap on a slow hard drive, your rig may stall instead of scream. Your computer probably spends more time waiting for data from the hard drive than from any other device. If yor hard drive is a slowpoke, it will delay everything you try to do with your PC. In order to understand what makes one harddrive faster than another, it helps to know how they work.A hard drive stores bits of data as magnetic charges on rigid aluminum or glass disks, often caled platters. The drive moves Read/Write heads back and forth across the platters as they spin at 5,400 rpm (revolutions per minute0 to 15,000rpm, always keeping the heads a tiny distance above the disks' surfaces. The electromagnetic heads read data from and write it to the platers' magnetic recording layers.Because it takes a few millisecond to find data on a harddrive, which is a long time to a computer, a drive has some memory called cache buffer. these few mbs stroe the last data the drive was asked the retrive. If it asks for the same data it will find it faster.

ps in a week, I will teach you how to fdisk a brand new hard drive and how to format. until then. bye

lol....erm thanks for that. Many people who dont get a 7,200 and 8mb cache which are like average nowadays are purddddddddy stupid.
