Sometimes during the last 2 weeks, the sound (volume) on My Dell Dimension 8300 is only 1/4 of what it was, and is supposed to be. I can hear it with the speakers turned all the way to maximum volume but just barely. The sound is clear, however, and doesn't break up.
I spent 2 hours with a Dell tech. who was unable to solve the problem. He finally recommended reinstalling the operating system (Windows XP Pro) but that would be a disaster.
I've checked every volume setting, deleted and reinstalled the Sound card (Creative SB Live), run the Creative diagnostics, and the XP Sound diagnostics. I'm pretty sure that the sound card and computer hardware are ok.
I've uninstalled Real Player, Quicktime and Windows Media Player 9 and am using the last version of WMP.
I would appreciate any help with this problem. Thanks.
