All you have to do is hook up the harddrive-windows reconfiguers itself to the new hardware. If it needs the cd it will ask for it. Most bios auto detect harddrives very well now.
There is no need to format and start over so long as your windows system is solid.
Then you can hook up the new drive later and copy to it.
