I have a decent understanding of computers. I can build em, take em apart, repair them...blah..blah..blah.
However, this whole FSB thing has got me confused.
I recently bought a Shuttle PC (SS56G) with these specs.
Specifications:
CPU Support: Intel Pentium 4/Celeron (Socket 478, Max.FSB 800)
Chipsets: SiS661FX + 963L
Memory: 2x 184pin (DDR333/400 up to 2GB)
IDE: 2x ATA133
Expansion Slot: 1x PCI, 1x AGP 8X
Graphics: Integrated SiS Real 256E core
Audio: Realtek ALC650
LAN: Realtek 8100B
Extension Bay: 2x 3.5", 1x 5.25"
Front Panel Ports: 2x USB, 1x mini 1394, Audio ports
Back Panel Ports: 2x COM, 2x PS/2, 1x VGA, 1x RJ45, 2x 1394, 2x USB, Audio ports
Power Supply: 200W(PFC)
I added a P4 2.8ghz processor and some Kingston 3200 512mb ram.
My video card, not that it's important for this matter is a ATI Radeon 9800pro.
Now, here's my newbie question.
When I boot up, I expect to see something saying 800mhz FSB, but instead I see something saying 400mhz.
What gives? Is it really running at 400mhz FSB, or is it using a multiplier and running at 800mhz?
I just want the most out of my computer to get ready for some of the newer games (DOOM3 and Half-Life 2) and want to make sure the system is running at it's top speeds.
Any help is appreciated!
Stephen
