new to networking

hey, I have a computer running XP, and another running windows 98, and i would like to put them on a network. I have some cable wire left over from when i installed my cable internet on another comp, and i was told that i could use this for my network cable, but i don't know about any of the settings, or anything. can somebody give me some help?

if both computers have a network card.. u just need cross over network cable.

cheap as chips

on the xp box.. disable the firewall on the lan port on the xp box..

on the xp box run the networking wizard. this will give u the option to create a setup disk to put in the windows 98 machine

.. and you will be networked

Yeah; best to install XP on the 98 - they won't do very well if not.
