messed up comp

i have a two yr old comp that i made myself and gave to my sister for her birthday.

it's been working fine till she started downloading stupid programs on kazaa and she downloaded a couple virusess and junk.

a little while after that, the cd rom's and burner's stopped working.

Now when we insert a cd in, the comp does not read it.

Yesterday, her comp jus shut down and when we try to start it up all we get is regular startup screen, then a screen saying that i need to put in the original cd and press r to repair.

unfortunately i can't do it because the computer doens't read cds.

so i've decided to bail on the comp and jus switch parts.

alright.

wat parts would i have to replace.
do i have to replace the cd-rom, burner, harddrive, motherboard, etc.?
thanks.

dunno what to do at the moment.

You probably don't need any parts, in fact I'm pretty sure you don't.
Viruses, adware, spyware and trojans are all designed to do one thing, SCREW YOU UP! The ones you have are restricting the drives so that they don't respond to discs.I've posted how to solve these vicious problems that almost everyone experiences.(for ease, I'll paste it for you down below)

If you really want to get a fresh start, please listen and follow closely...
This will only work if you have another computer in your house, or use a friends computer. With that in mind, let's begin..

Step.1=remove your main hard drive.
Step.2=look at the back of your hard drive to the left of where the IDE cable connects, you should find a set of three jumpers(pin pairs)Master, Slave, and Cable Select.Yours will probably be on Master.
Step.3=Switch the jumper to the slave setting.
Step.4=temporarilly install the HDD in some other computer(house, or friends, doesn't matter which)
Step.5=boot up the computer in which you temporarilly installed the HDD.
Step.6=go to My Computer and select the New HDD(it ussually keeps the same name you gave it, if you did)
Step.7=right click on the newly installed HDD and select format, then format the drive(do not use the quick format option, though it might be tempting)
Step.8=after formating is complete, remove the HDD again and set the jumper back to Master(or whatever it was before you reformatted)
Step.9=mount it back in your computer, connect all cables(correctly)and reboot.
Step.10=after your BIOS boots, you will see a message saying"press any key to continue booting"ignore this(for now) place your XP install disk in the disk tray and reboot again. From there it's pretty easy, just follow the steps on the screen.

If this doesn't work, only god can solve your problem!

would getting a new hard drive also solve the problem?
because it's time for her to be getting a new one anyway.

When will you people know the importance of includeing your Windows version.
But this is still a very up to date and useable system.
You just have to fdisk the hd.
Mine is 11/2 years old and i'll wait a couple of years more,There are many more updates for this system not a "new one" and a bunch of 2 year old "junk"to get rid of.

please just answer my question.
not trying to be rude,
but the harddrive has only 20 gigs on it and she wanted more anyway, so would replacing the hard drive fix the problem?

Reinstalling Windows will fix the problem. A new hard drive is the same answer, you have to reinstall Windows when you get a new harddrive.

Stop surfing without a condom (Anti-Virus Software)!!!

Stop downloading illegal music and movies or any software that is not your own. That's where most virus attack first.

Stop surfing porn. Trojans (not the condom) and adware are very common in this realm.

Keep your Windows updates current. Security updates happen often.

Keep your Anti-Virus Software current. Updates are available every Tuesday for McAfee Software.

Follow these simple rules and your computer will really become a fun and exciting tool and play toy.

alright u fag i didn't want to be rude, but it's not me who was doing all that shit, so stfu ass.

get ur head out of ur ass and read my previous posts.

Absolutely, but you still have to understand useing fdisk and formating. If you can't do the 20 gigs how will you do the new one.
