Well this may require attachments to speed things up.1st ?
What video card do you have ?
right click the desktop and select propertys/settings.
advanced/monitor.
Select yours if it's listed.Refresh rate to optimal if you don't know it.
Over to you.

I have a NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 video card.

"Select yours if it's listed.Refresh rate to optimal if you don't know it."

I'm unsure what this means.

The reason your monitor has a ghosting/shadowing effect is because it has a slow response time maybe around 25 ms. The one at work might be a 16 or 12 ms.
 
Well, I had Ghosting and poor screen fonts until i did one thing: ADJUSTED THE REFRESH RATE AND CHANGED THE RESOLUTION. That's right, LCD flatpanel monitors are very resolution specific.
 
NVIDIAGAMER...you are correct. Flat panel displays are made fos specific screen resolutions. Even though, they list other resolutions.

17" LCD or TFT are most likely using 1280 x 1024. Try changing the resoltion until you get a good picture. Then tweak and play with the refresh rate.
