No Sound

Hi Folks, I'm running two computers at home both on XP and ethernet networked by a router. Since installing NTL broadband and the router, both computers have no sound, but the systems are running. All drivers are fine and the best available. NTL have no idea why this is happening. Everything tried shows systems work o.k, but just no sound from the speakers on both computers. I cannot reinstall drivers on guest computer as it's on a HP Windows ME all in one disk which came with the computer, and I'm now on XP. Any ideas please?
I'm very much a novice in computers.

Test the speakers first to see if they are working . Reinstall the drivers maybe. It seems weird that both computers are not working.
