Whats the difference between a Maxtor 40GB hard Drive and a Maxtor 40GB slim Hard Drive?

Yeah - if it was thinner is would have to have less heads; and so with less heads reading would be cut down and indeed writing. I'd imagine the thinner one would be more expensive too - so I would get the normal one unless you specifically need the thin one for some reason.

I meant the case is just thinner. Why would it have less heads?

If the case is thinner; then either they jack up the price or take out heads because it costs too much to put in more? Sounds right doesn't it?

Head are the things which stick out and read the data on the disks.

Yeah - that would be the biggest thing about having a smaller one; it would get steaply more expensive.
