I have had many bots in the past. I use to run them off RunABot, but the servise with them became so aggravating that I quit. I didn't even like the program you used to run the bot. I've decided to install Perl on my home PC and run my bots. You run the bots with MSDOS. I use Decyphile for my bot. But anyways, I don't use my bots much any more... maybe when I get DSL... and when It can be online a long time. I'm on 56k now. :(

Im also on a 56k, and my bot is a runabot. I dont like it much either, i dont want to pay for more room, because Im supposed to get 4000 replies, and i only have 100 on him, and it wont let me have any more , I dont know why.

the way a bot works is you register a aim s/n set the controls up for the bot and add comands for it. then people can talk to it.

I want to make my own AIM client, I've searched google to death, but I haven't found out how to connect and send IMs(with sockets, not with some program)

Ok, I hate to be stupid for everyone else's sake, but ahmmm... what is an aim bot and what are they supposed to do.
I have a vague recollection of this bloody annoying purple talking parrot that bared some resemblence to what your all talking about.

All I know about Bots is that MSN have one which is scowering all Websites and bringing back certain information so that they can help their Search get much, MUCH better and comete with Google in a far mroe strong way.

They are not so bad, if they are useful.
Bot: MaliciousPastry
IM it with: help
I have been in contact with the guy who made it, the bot uses a Perl and MySQL backend to store and send serial numbers and cd keys to people who IM it with the program name.

Interesting! But it doesn't make AIM good!

Well... You don't have to use AIM, just any client that supports the OSCAR protocol.
Trillian, GAIM, Perl Clients, there are many more.
If we all had our choice, then we would make our own clients, and nobody would be able to talk to anyone, because the clients would differ in protocol.
I made my own client, but had it use the OSCAR protocol.

I was just trying to say that AIM is bad!
