Hi everyone,

I am also going to be a moderator on this forum so here is my first opening post to introduce myself.

My name is Kevin (obviously) and I am based in the United Kingdom. I work as an IT technician; this involves performing diagnostic tests on machines/hardware and then repairing any parts that are found to be faulty.
I am A+ and MCP certified and am working hard towards being MSCE qualified (takes forever though!) so I know a fair bit about hardware and the Windows group of Operating Systems.

As for my participation in these forums -

I think forums are an invaluable source of information and also for people to find a solution to any problems that they have so with participation from you this could be an excellent place where we can all help each other out.

And of course, it's always nice to have a friendly chat with like minded people.

Well, keep the threads coming in and tell your friends about this forum! "The bigger the better" is certainly apt for this kind of public forum.

Speak to you soon,

Kevin

You see Moss, I'd rather go forth in an exceling fashion. An uneducated peon such as yourself will not appreciate the skills involved or talent a moderator has and will pocess. Basically, I'll ring your neck!

Dragonjames2
April 4th, 2003, 10:15 AM

Slayer

April 7th, 2003, 05:25 PM
Why not?

r u just kidding or upset because you are not a moderator?

Slayer
April 7th, 2003, 05:35 PM
nope,im not kidding.this forum is just mostly filled with pathetic pricks like jeremy, moss etc.

david even said it himself "this place is filled with a bunch of three year olds".

its only one or two handfulls of people that talk about sensible subjects like david, you, futurehosts, dragonjames etc.but all the others seem to be complete and total nutters.

this forum used to be good, with no argumenets(apart from the single one between dragonjames and sauron).theyre werent any offensive threads, theyre werent any idiots who couldnt find the post reply button, and generally, its turned into a war forum.

and the mod thing didnt help, the fact that david couldnt even chose one of his loyal members to be one too.i dont mind the other moderators, dont get me wrong, but it would have been nice if david had chosen dragonjames,me or someone like that.thats all.

Hang in there rocker nash this forum wouldn't be half as much fun w/o you!

This forum could grow to be very popular.

I think David did what he thought what was best and got some forum experienced people involved that may not be personal friends but that allows for a more objective view and not having to worry about hurting your friends feelings when working in an admin position.

Perhaps his choice is more business than politically motivated.

Not a bad thing in the long run.

U think so?

Slayer
April 7th, 2003, 06:18 PM
like i said,i dont mind having these two mods, but the least he could have done is chose one of us too.

what do you mean the place wouldnt be as much fun without me?

answer some questions.

1)when you first joined this forum(the old yabb one)was their constant war threads in the socail lounge?

2)did members have a constant grudge against one another?

3)had people left the forum because their were constant argueing and bickereings?

phrankco
April 8th, 2003, 12:00 AM
well things seem to have heated up a bit lately but this too will pass, eh?

rocker nash I meant that this forum would not be half as much fun w/o you

anyway welcome to the new mods - I see you are VERY competetive hosting sites

Dragonjames2
April 8th, 2003, 08:22 AM
You see Phrancko, we have two professional moderators representing the outside world and moderation. We need a member to moderate to represent the values of othermembers. I should do it because i am over 18 (18 and 4 months) and i will be responsible. I am always on here so i will do a good job

This is an exerpt from a reference paper's footnote found while searching on TUNVA. The paper is totally unrelated to computers. I think the creater of this virus is trying to say something profound. Too bad the subtlety isn't appreciated by me.

108. TB Yoma 83a. The idea of tunva is discussed by R Yig'al Shafran in an original and fascinating short volume that I acquired only after completing a late draft of this present work, L'khapot o Lachadol? (To Compel or to Refrain? Treatment of Parents Against Their Wishes (Hebrew): Jerusalem 1993: The Division of Medicine and Halakha of the Chief Rabbinate and of the Jerusalem Regional Religious Council.). At pp. 35 ff., R Shafran argues that the Old French term that Rashi uses as a translation of tunva, namely, 'estordison ', is used by Rashi elsewhere in a way that reflects simple confusion, rather than what would otherwise be judged to be true mental incompetence. (See Rashi, s.v. tunva, in TB Nida 37b,

TB 'Eruvin 68a; and s.v. tohu vavohu, Genesis 1.2) Since the diagnosis of tunvav disqualifies a patient's wishes, and since most if not all seriously ill patients suffer confusion, R Shafran argues for the general principle that seriously ill patients can be presumed incapable for purposes of medical decision-making.

There are two issues to be dealt with in responding to this powerful challenge to a patient's role in medical decision-making. First: Why does R Shafran believe that this passage may be generalized beyond the specifics of eating upon Yom Kippur? It may be argued that under these special circumstances, when an ill person has been fasting, his mind may be presumed clouded, but not otherwise.

The second issue is more basic. The Old French term, 'estordison '-- cognate to the modern etourdissement-- had (and retains) a broad semantic range, that includes garden-variety thoughtlessness, heedlessness and foolishness, as well as medically significant stupor or daze. (Cf. Tobler-Lommatzsch, Altfranzosisches Worterbuch (Wiesbaden: Franz Steiner Verlag, 1954), s.v. estordison.) The other instances of its use that R Shafran cite appear to take the former meaning, that does not imply strict incompetence. But in the instance which we are discussing Rashi adds the specifical qualifier, that this decision is being done incompetently, i.e., as sh'tut . Here then Rashi seems to be taking pains to tell us that tunva only amounts to incompetence when accompanied by sh'tut. (I am very grateful to McGill University's Prof. Faith Wallis, of the Department of Social Studies in Medicine, for information about the French.)
