problem with shutting down

When I try shutting down my computer by going Start>Turn Off Computer everything goes fine but instead of shutting down it actually restarts and computer is still on, I need to manually hold down the power button to turn it off. Does anyone know what the problem is.

it could be having a problem shutting down so it restarts. like when your running a porgram and all of a sudden your computer restarts.

If you want to use the direct action for shutting down go to %systemroot%\system32 and in the application list there should be shutdown, if you click on that or create a shortcut for it then you can shut down instead of doing it manually.

It still wouldn't be good to use becasue it wouldn't give time for applications to shutdown.
